Bert Morris Inter Firms Cricket League 2010 End of Season Meeting

The Club Secretary attended the meeting which took place at the Civil Service Club on Thursday 18th November and which commenced at 8pm. It was announced that Rowner had won both the League (by some distance) and the Cup and we were presented with the trophy for the League title. The Club is already in posession of the Cup trophy having successfully defended it in 2010.
The Inter Firms Cricket League rules state that no club is allowed to field more than two players who play in a higher standard than County Division 4 level. In practice although that will not effect us to the degree that other participants in the League seem to believe, we do need to ensure that we are observing any relevant league rules for 2011, our flagship XI having secured promotion to County 3 next season.
In fact I did find the popular misconception that we regularly field our 1st XI line up in the evening league rather amusing (and from what I can gather even if we had done this season it would not have been against the rules !). I explained that we are a small Club, that we already supply a number of players to other teams in the league, and therefore if what is left is young and talented, there is not a great deal we can do about it, but that the rump of our side was in fact drawn from Colts/2nd XI players.
Luke Watson won the batting award with 206 runs from 7 innings at an average of 29.43, and Jim Kemp was runner up with 228 runs from 8 innings at an average of 28.5. I was proud to point out that a 2nd XI stalwart had won the award, and he has a trophy to collect from me when I next see him. It was very satisfying to hear from other attendees to the meeting (in particular Gosport Borough`s Chairman) that we have some very useful youngsters, although I was disappointed to hear from both the League Secretary and Ashfords representative that the personal conduct of one of our bowlers in particular had left something to be desired on more than one occasion. I apologised and asked that this be put down to immaturity, and it is to be hoped that this does not reoccur otherwise further action may have to be considered. But overall
WELL DONE THE MIDWEEK TEAM - YOU DID US PROUD !
